A Call To Action
The Empire Strikes Back
The Libertarian Party of Illinois did a great job collecting signatures to get our candidates on the ballot, but our task is not over. People who are very afraid of our candidates and the coming Libertarian Revolution worked overtime to put together a challenge to our state-wide petition. It's no trivial task to comb through 2,583 petition pages and find something to object to on 26,978 individual signature lines.
We need you to defend our signatures against this attack. We don't know the exact schedule yet, but sometime between July 7 - 30, we will need an estimated 12 volunteers per day to descend on Springfield. Each volunteer defender will be assigned to a computer along with an objector and a neutral representative from the State Board of Elections.
At the computer, all you do is look at our petitions and see if you can find matches in the list of registered voters. It's not hard to do, but we must to have people defending our side or the objections will stand and our candidates will be kicked off the ballot.
If you can support our team in Springfield, please email your name, phone, and how many days (1-3) you think you can attend to PDM@LPIllinois.org. Please also mention if you have an room to share with a fellow defender who is staying overnight. We will contact you as soon as we know the date the challenge will begin.
If you cannot be with us in Springfield, please donate to the Party so we can pay the legal fees that this objection will rack up. Donations by check can be sent to: Libertarian Party of Illinois, PO Box 6, Bloomington, IL61702-0006. Online donations gratefully accepted at LPIllinois.org.
Let's leap to the challenge and torch these objections with the FIRE OF LIBERTY.
What are they afraid of?
Our district candidates were all challenged as well as the state-wide petition. Here's where they stand:
- Doug Marks plans to continue his campaign for the 14th Congressional District as a write-in candidate.
- Kevin Hendricksonis seeking to have his objection withdrawn in the 69th Representative District.
- Steve Funk will take up the legal battle to defend his right to be on the ballot in the 18th Representative District. You can read Steve's press release about the challenge and donate to his campaign to support his defense on his website VoteSteveFunk.com.
Special Announcement:
The Illinois Libertarian Party has been accepted at the State Fair!!
It will be an opportunity to expose thousands of people to the freedom option. The LP will need our local chapter to organize and staff the event. A small price to pay for a chance at liberating minds. Please volunteer!!
Calender of Events:
Petition drive to get our candidates on the ballot. It will also aid the LP come presidential election time. Ballot access in all 50 states could give the right candidate at the right time a chance. The drive ends June 18th. If you do not like asking strangers, please get your family and friends to sign. Thank You.
I am sorry for any errors in this website. It was done quickly and writing was never my strong point.
Notice to other like minded
The Sangamon County Libertarians are now officially formed. The Illinois Libertarian Party recognized this Chapter November 19th, 2009. The local party has doubled since forming. It has started a Web page and a Facebook site. We have done a series of press releases advocating freedom.
We have reached out to other like minded friend groups. We hope to grow liberty in this community. Thanks to everyone for helping freedom grow. We are looking for a new place for the monthly meetings. Please remember, Rome was not built in a day and Oak trees don't get big over night.
We need people to contribute in any way possible. Writing, editing, money, time, contacts, ideas etc. Please write an article for the web site and we will add it. Contact the news and put the Libertarian meme into the community. By the way did I mention editing??? Please help!!
We know that your talent is waiting to be unleashed. Please help people discover the idea of freedom. They have seen enough of regulation and control. The soil is prepared to plant the seed of liberty.
Events so far this year:
January: Made plans to participate in a non-intervention rally. We planned to do some sort of 2nd Amendment action and planned how to grow our numbers. We hoped to get some sort of presence at the IL State Fair. Press releases were made in protest to forced blood draws in our county. We reached out to members in the law enforcement community about this issue. We were published by two national sites. We received our first cash donations totaling $50.
February: Had our first meeting with a state wide candidate - Lex Green (for Governor). For a new group we had a very strong turnout in the twenties. A press release was published by the nationally renowned Freedom's Phoenix. Received another $25 donation. The peace chest is up to $75.
March: Participation in a non-intervention rally (organized by local Activist Greg Bishop). Two state wide libertarian candidates spoke and a third was in attendance. A Constitution Candidate for Senator and two Green Party Candidates were there as well. The turnout was very positive considering the weather. Press Releases were published by Freedom's Phoenix. Another local activist was inspired by the activity and is in the process of organizing a Political Action Committee. A donation was given to the SCLP of $20. The Peace Chest is up to $95.
A advertising donation was made for a local high school event. The SCLP was advertised at an event that had hundreds of people in attendance.
April: We received another donation of $20. Putting our treasury at $115.
On April 3rd, Lex Green and the SCLP attended a local MMA event with over a 1,000 in attendance. Literature was dispensed. Scot Ward was recognized for his efforts at Liberty. Lex got to give a short speech.
On April 5th, the SCLP - McClean LP and Lex Green attended the Tea Party in Springfield. Signatures were gathered and the LP was argued for.
We received another donation of $25.00, putting our total at $140.00. We still have not spent a penny of donated money.
Our press releases and other communications have been published on other national websites such as : Freedom's Phoenix, Stop the Lie and the Burning Platform.
May: Petition Drive. Liberty Award issued to Greg Bishop. Planning for State Fair events.
